Race 8 - October 21, 2007

Smile!! You're in the spotlight!! Why? This season is rapidly drawing to a close. There are only four races remaining. This year, you must have participated in seven events and finish in the top five in points to qualify for run-off's (March 2008). Here is a list of who has participated in at least three events. Those people need to attend the last four events to qualify for run-off's. If you have questions, please stay tuned as we'll post more information as it becomes available.

Before run-off's, we'll post the complete list of people who have qualified for the season ending race.

Early on, lots of people were showing up for the race. When it was all said and done, we had about 122 drivers. Despite this, the Solo Chiefs were able to keep the event moving along.

As usual, Joey had the registration tent running well.

Others were working on their cars or just hanging out waiting for the race to begin. One person even wanted to keep his wheels and tires nice and clean. He's using towels to hide the tires/rims from his competition.

Last week Avery was showing off his nice white car with his nice white rims. This week, Avery was showing off his new UFC move. He was trying to convince everyone that if the current UFC champion were to use his move, he'd win within a couple seconds. No one really understood what he was trying to do, nor why he was so excited. They were kinda wondering if Avery knew. Don't worry Avery, just please remember to take your medication.

Also last week, we welcomed back Earl from a very long abscence. This week, we welcome back Joyce! She had car problems last week that her "mechanic", ahem, fixed. This race, she was doing well until just before her first run, when a coolant overflow problem occurred. But, she was able to fix the problem, and had four solid runs. Maybe she should rethink her "mechanic".

Another welcome back is to Woody Williams. Last time Woody was spotted was in Narita Airport (Tokyo) a few monts back. If you notice, the picture is of Joyce - she's WAY better to look at than Woody. Welcome back Joyce and Woody!

The turnout was the best ever! We had 122 people in total and this includes seventeen novices. This is far and away a record for us! From the smiles, it seemed like all had a good time. We'll be looking for you at the next race on November 25.

A big Aloha to our novices for this month.

Welcome to Greg Hauser (BS), Nick Chun and Andy Riekstins (ES), Roland Aquino and Alan Do (GS), Janice Uga (HS), Mike Bux (ASP), Jermain Aquino (BSP), Devin Thomas, Shane Cox, Kashif Clary and John Boyles (DSP), Brandon Barbini (ESP), Bobby Jo Rogers, Michael Meyers and Chris Kimura (EM), and Ryan Terry (STS). We really hoped you enjoyed "the ride" and we'll look for you on next month!

Please remember that for fun runs, you must have a valid fun run card. These can be purchased - with a check made out to "SCCA Hawaii" (cost $5.00 US). You can ONLY buy them at either morning or afternoon registration. You must also have teams of three - not two, not four. After Heat 4, if there is time, all teams must show up at the trailer table, and you'll surrender your "collateral" to Amy or Jenn at that time. After fun runs, you WILL stay to help clean up.

Last week, I inadvertantly omitted the guys from CP in the write up. Oh well. If they're lucky, there may be some mention of them - maybe.

But that doesn't matter. What matters is that for this race there is a new #1 in overall and PAX. Check out the listing further down the page!! Our fearful leader was beaten. He must have been watching too much college football, and seeing all the unbeaten teams going down.

Individual class winners were Charles Lindemann (AS), Scott Tamashiro (CS), Tim Melhorn (DS), Dan Morton (FP), Stephen Nakamura (STU) and Mark Pacpaco (STX).

In the stock classes, Jayson Guzman beat out Osamu Manabe and Randall Kawall for the win in SS. Tom Richards was able to control some overdriving for the win in BS, besting Earl Huang and Patrick Hartnett. Meanwhile, in ES, Rodney Raganit's 27.731 was the best in class over Bill Taylor and Nick Chun. Mike Ward drove to a win and #1 PAX in GS over Randy Acoba and Robert Fairchild. And in HS, Jeff Okinaka beat out Sean Bellapianta and Gabe "HI BABY" Hanohano for the win.

In the Street Prepared classes, BSP Curtis Lee was 0.02s faster than Mister Gene Van Orman. Jenn came in third. CSP was taken by Jason Tokunaga by 0.095s over Ken Van Orman, with Leila Johnson coming in third. DSP was won by Gary Kitagawa, with novice Devin Thomas second and Reid Kubota third. Jon Matsushige was bested Richard Takaba and Logan Fukuda for the win in ESP. In FSP, Brendan Matsumura drove his Corolla to a win over Troy Morioka and Woody Williams.

In the Prepared classes ... wait. FP's winner was already mentioned. Time to move on. CP was won by Jonathan Robbins over Phillip Sharp and Rick Okazaki.

In the Modified classes, Earl Izawa won DM over Ryan Chang and Geoffrey Torres. EM was won by Bob Igarashi. Joey Battista came in second with Francis Lining in third. SM was won by Brad Lau, with Cliff Goto second and Larry Hoggan in third. SM2 was won by Mike Parker's FTD lf 26.428 over overall #4 Cory Tomoyasu in second and a tie for third between overall #9 Barry Lai and Danniel Libutti.

In the Street Touring classes, Cory Toyama won STS by 0.502s over Steven Serikaku who was 0.043s faster than AAron Strom. Avery Tsui won ST2 by stomping upon Rogelioi Tanicala and Tim Bilecki.
