Race 10 - December 16, 2007

It was a cold and dreary night ... wait! This isn't Snoopy writing his novel, this is an SCCA News Letter. So who is this guy in the dark with this eyes closed? It's your very own security chief. Rick figures that if he can't see something going on, there's nothing going on. Hmmm ...
Early registration at the entrance gate was going on. You would have thought that it was cold, judging by the guy in the knit cap and jacket. Lemme tell you, it was
NOT cold - spend a week in Alaska.
THEN you'll know cold.

Francis was in a good mood. Maybe because he had "Joey's number" at the last race?

Jenn had her own opinion on this matter. I wonder what it could be?? Can you tell?
Our early morning set up crew were working hard (kind of) to set up the course.

Registration was on going without a tent. It was just too windy.

Just a reminder. When it is very, very windy like on Sunday, please make sure that you have adequate weights to help hold the tent in place. Also, you
MUST have someone present at the tent at all times. There was a recent incident where a tent blew over due to wind, and damaged Elliott's car. So, unless you're willing to pay for damages, don't put up your tent, or have someone stay with the tent.
Despite the wind, some love was in the air.

A Big Island size
Welcome Back goes out this month to Eric "You got beat by a truck" Schmidt! He's been overseas helping us by serving this great country of ours. It's good to have him back - unless "you got beat by a truck" - like me.

No, Eric is not that short, well, either that or he's sitting down or those are some good size wheel/tires!! Or maybe he was just eyeing that wheel tire combo for his truck, and got caught looking? He didn't want to comment. Go figure.
Oh yes. Let's not forget Miss Nismo (a.k.a Michelle Wee, a.k.a. Cheryl). She's back. Big deal.

Here she is trying her best to spell out her racing class. Someone has to tell her it's BSP, not PBS. I volunteer Jayson!!
The turnout was
VERY good! We had 113 people in total and this includes seven novices. We'll be looking for you at the next race on January 20.
A big Aloha to our novices for this month.
Welcome to Mike Grimes (DS), Jason Sumner and Kelly Lanternier (GS), Jay Guerrero (HS), Paul Kosnik and Paul Kosnik, Jr. (ESP) and Josh Tyte (CP).
Please remember that for fun runs, you
must have a valid fun run card. These can be purchased - with a check made out to "SCCA Hawaii" (cost $5.00 US). You can
ONLY buy them at either morning or afternoon registration.
You must also have teams of three - not two, not four. After Heat 4, if there is time, all teams must show up at the trailer table, and you'll surrender your "collateral" to Amy or Jenn at that time. After fun runs, you
WILL stay to help clean up.
Individual class winners were Jayson Guzman (SS), Earl Huang (BS), Dexter Lum (CS), Jarrod Barton (DS), Rodney Raganit (ES), Jason Tokunaga (CSP), Robert Fairchild (DSP), Brendan Matsumura (FSP), Jonathan Robbins (CP), Albert Carter (BM), Tom Richards (STU) and Mark Pacpaco (STX).
In the stock classes, Charles Lindemann beat out Matthew Kurihara and Mike Sanders for the win in AS. In a Mini Cooper S 1 - 2 - 3, Mike Ward beat Mike McCabe who beat out Kenlie Ward in GS. Sean Bellapianta won HS over first loser Elliott Loo and second loser Gabe Hanohano.
In the Street Prepared classes, Curtis Lee took out Garrett Chew and Jennifer Lee for the win. Jon Matsushige beat out Richard Takaba and Logan Fukuda for first place in ESP.
In the modified classe, Earl Izawa took first place over Jack Evans and Martin Astromowicz. EM's Francis Lining was again tops beating out Bob Igarashi and Joey Battista.
In the street touring classes, Aaron Strom drove to a win in STS over Gregg Serikaku and Steven Serikaku. Meanwhile, ST2 was taken by Rogelio Tanicala over Christ Lambert and Avery Tsui.
In the street modified classes, Brad Lau beat out Larry Hoggan and Tyler Sato for the win. SM2 was won by Mike Parker over Barry Lai and Cory Tomoyasu. This class was probably the most competitive, with these guys in the overall top 7. Nice drive you guys!!
